The City College of New York

The series of lectures, conversations, film showings, exhibitions, and courses brings together faculty, students, and staff at CCNY and the New York City community to examine human rights through multiple lenses.

The CCNY Human Rights Seminar (HRS) is an interdisciplinary, invitation-only scholarly forum first established in Spring 2015. It fosters discussion and debate on recent scholarship relating to human rights issues, broadly defined. The participants represent a wide variety of disciplines and practice fields; presenters are chosen based on their considerable contributions to Human Rights scholarship. The discussions are based on precirculated papers, either works-in-progress or recent publications. Participants have come from CCNY, other CUNY campuses, Columbia, and NYU.

HRS is part of a broader program of human rights initiatives that includes the Human Rights Forum (HRF), a series of public lectures and panel discussions by renowned practitioners and scholars, and a new interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Human Rights. All events are organized by the Division of Humanities and Arts, the Center for Worker Education, and the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.
